Around Lacuna Loft – Fall

Summer is officially wrapping up and the fall is here!  Leaves are starting to turn and the coffee shops have everything pumpkin on rotation in full force.

Around Lacuna Loft, things have been super busy.  We’ve added a few new things to our shop and are starting to explore some brand new business structures.  The ultimate goal is to continue providing you with tools and resources for your day as a young adult dealing with cancer or long term illness.  Young adult survivors and caregivers need age-appropriate care and Lacuna Loft is committed to helping you manage your new day-to-day life with crisis.  We’ll keep you updated as things unfold!

In the next few weeks we have some super creative DIYs and style tutorials coming out as well as a whole lot more cancer and illness related articles.  We’ll talk about food, yoga, fertility, family, friends, and much more.  If you’d like less of one thing and more of something else, don’t hesitate to let us know!

LL At The Young Women’s Breast Cancer Annual Symposium

Lacuna Loft was honored to attend the Young Women’s Breast Cancer Program’s (YWBCP) Annual Symposium held by the Siteman Cancer Center.  Dozens of young women attended and many of them for the second, third, or fourth year!  I asked many of them why they return and each woman responded the same way…they all loved the community and camaraderie that the YWBCP’s events create.  Each woman found that connecting to other young survivors was a extremely helpful part of her recovery and fight.

I have found this to be true as well.  No matter what kind of diagnosis, speaking to another young adult cancer survivor is immediately a far more intimate experience than just speaking with another young adult.  The challenges young adult cancer survivors face are numerous and it always feels comforting to me connecting with someone else who knows exactly what I’ve been through.

Though I am not a breast cancer survivor (I had Hodgkin’s Lymphoma), it was a really lovely event to attend.  If there are any young survivor events near you, I strongly encourage you to find the courage to go…even if you don’t know anyone else there!  What’s more, it was awesome being able to talk about Lacuna Loft with such a fabulous group of women.

If you are in the St. Louis area and are a young breast cancer survivor, you can see all the information for the YWBCP here.

So much has been going on around Lacuna Loft!  We have some new DIYs coming up.  I took a vacation, traveling to England with my family.  I have some great posts in the works having to do with that.  There have also been some exciting business meetings around the Lacuna Loft office.  Our connections are growing and we’re finding new ways to bring you awesome content and reach out to more and more young adult survivors out there.  We have some cool foodie posts in the works as well…exploring some alternative eating.  My husband passed his PhD defense which was really exciting!  He is just a step away from being a full-fledged, Doctor of Philosophy.  And…as always, I work from home much of the time which means that I work along side too wonderful furry black mutts. 🙂

A CEO’s Scar Story

I recently published an article with the very accomplished Jenny Cutler Lopez.  She has brought together a multitude of voices in a book entitled “Who I Am:  American Scar Stories” that features wonderful, personal stories from people with all varieties of scars.  Jenny and I connected via twitter (did you know that Lacuna Loft is on twitter?) and decided to each share our voices.  In my post, published on Jenny’s site here, I share a bit of the more vulnerable side of my scar story before and after my scar arrived in my life.

Do you have a personal story that you think would fit in here at Lacuna Loft?  Let us know!  Send us an email at info(at)lacunaloft(dot)com
