We’re Back!

plane landing

We are back!  We’ve spent the Holidays with family and friends and the start of 2019 digging into so many of the important, behind the scenes here at Lacuna Loft.  We are SUPER excited to be back in front of you all though!  Programs are back up and running, Lacuna Loft has a busy winter/spring travel schedule, and we have some new things up our sleeves!

Stay tuned this week specifically for the beginning of the end of the A Monster Calls young adult cancer book club as well as a Creative Art Workshop announcement!

Happy 2018 From Lacuna Loft!

happy new year

From all of us here at Lacuna Loft, Happy End of 2018!

We’ve had a short week of blog posts this week as the end of the year grinds to a close.  It has been quite a year…we’ve filled our virtual walls with Creative Art Workshops, Creative Writing Workshops, the voices of courageous young adult cancer survivors and caregivers, shared experiences, and so much more.  Thank you for joining us.  We know that the normal sentiment is to wish you a happy new year (since we have to admit that the year is quickly coming to an end).  But instead, we’d love to wish you a Happy End of 2018.  We want to acknowledge the bravery and courage with which you have faced this year.

What brought you here wasn’t planned nor was it easy…but now that you’re here may you find friendship, validation, and the knowledge that you are never alone.

We’ll be back in mid-January with more of the voices you have come to count on (including a wrap up of our latest young adult cancer book club!).  Until then…

Happy December, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year!

Have A Holiday Weekend

friends

Hey there!

Today, we’re doing things just a little bit different than normal.  Over the past 3.5 years, Lacuna Loft has delivered blog posts, Creative Art Workshops, Creative Writing Workshops, Young Adult Cancer Book Clubs, Meditation Groups, Awkward Auntie answers, and so much more.  All of our programs are specifically geared for young adult cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers, all of our programs are delivered online so that survivors and caregivers can live absolutely everywhere and still get the age-appropriate support and connection they deserve, and all of our content and programs are delivered absolutely free.

But there is a cost to everything.  Our programs require attention, planning, technology, scheduling, outreach, communication with volunteers and program participants, and they need money.  In order to deliver programs to young adult cancer survivors without charging any fees, Lacuna Loft absorbs all of the costs for every single program.  How do we do that?  With help from our generous program sponsors, event sponsors, and donors.

If you want to help support any piece of our programs, from the $7 shipping cost of a creative art workshop supply box to the $250 cost of one survivor participating in an 8-week writing workshop, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

One young adult survivor at a time, you make a difference.

Gala Update + Limited Edition Tees Are Going Fast!

gala tee

Lacuna Loft held its first ever Moon Walk Gala in Chicago back in October!  The event was absolutely wonderful and the amazing community of survivors, caregivers, donors, board members, and supporters came out in droves!  We’ll have photos to share with you VERY soon!

Together, with our generous sponsors (who you can also see below!), we raised over $11,500!

Now, here is the fun part!  We still have a limited number of the Moon Walk Gala event tees!  They are durable, affordable, super soft, and (best yet!) every dollar goes towards supporting programs for young adult cancer survivors and caregivers!  While they are still here, grab your tee today!

Keynote Speaker At The Moon Walk Gala

moon walk gala

At Lacuna Loft’s Moon Walk Gala a few weeks ago, one of our Board of Directors members, Aerial Donovan, gave the keynote speech.  Aerial took a huge role in planning the event and has given so much to Lacuna Loft over the past year.  Along with helping plan the Gala, Aerial has run many of our Creative Art Workshops and is now working behind the scenes to help plan and facilitate them.  Lacuna Loft is so much better because Aerial is a part of our community.  Below is a reaction to being the Keynote Speaker that Aerial wrote for Gryt Health’s blog:

…This is why Lacuna Loft’s in-person event was so special. The face of your typical support group is changing. The reach of these online organizations, such as Lacuna Loft, GRYT Health, Hopelab (an organization that has an awesome mindfulness chatbot for young adult cancer survivors) is growing. So is the voice of the community of young adult survivors and caregivers. It’s gotten louder. We’ve thrown out the limitations of a brick and mortar building and have no intention of going back. Which made this in person event so much more than a stiff and boring fundraiser.
