We’re Opening A Library! (Kind Of)

open books

Announcing the Lacuna Loft Young Adult Cancer Library!  A new initiative, the Lacuna Loft Library is our effort at upcycling our book club books!  We often receive requests for book club books after that round of the young adult cancer book club is done.  Unfortunately, we don’t keep any extra books in stock in our office so we’ve not been able to fulfill such requests.  That is all changing now!  Using the young adult cancer library, we can now easily share books with one another!

Have you participated in a book club and are ready to pass on your book?  Fill this out and a member of the Lacuna Loft team will reach out to you with where you can send your book.  Then you can place your book in the mail (we recommend media rate- this is super cheap!) and we will pass it on to another young adult cancer program participant who requests one!  This way your slightly used book can be read by a fellow young adult cancer patient, survivor, and/or caregiver.

Interested in getting a Lacuna Loft Library book that you missed out on? You can fill this out to request one!

Questions? Feel free to reach out to aerial@lacunaloft.org!

August Will Be Here Before You Know It

august calendar

Lacuna Loft is taking a program break over the month of July.  We’ve just hired Employee #2, we’re growing and reaching further into the young adult cancer space, and we’re very excited about getting back to you in August with more wonderful programs.

What will we do in July?  Trust us, it’s not a vacation 😉  We’ll be strategically planning, onboarding, grant writing, program planning, evaluating, dreaming, scheming, networking, and talking young adult cancer survivorship to anyone who will listen!

If you’d like to read through young-adult-cancer stories and voices while we’re on our July program break, check out our blog!  The archives are extensive…dating back to when we first launched our website in March 2014!  Interested in searching more by topic?  Hit up our main page and scroll down until you see the phrase, “Are you interested in…” followed by a bunch of little circles detailing different topics you can explore!

Have a wonderful July!  We’ll see you in August!

We’ve Hired A Chief Program Officer!

aerial welcome

I announce today, with immense pleasure, that Lacuna Loft has hired a Chief Program Officer!  We are now a powerful staff of two, fully dedicated to bringing age-appropriate support programs to young adult cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers through a medium that fits their lifestyle.  With the added staff power, we’ll be able to expand how many young adults can fit into our online programs, grow our reach even further into the young adult cancer community, and talk AYA cancer survivorship to even more people.

Lacuna Loft has been a labor of love over the past 4 years and I am so excited to bring another staff member onto the team.  Please join me in welcoming Aerial Donovan!

Aerial is excited to join the Lacuna Loft staff. She has spent the last couple of years as the VP of Programs at GRYT Health where she dedicated her time to helping the cancer community learn about resources, education about patient rights, and encouraging engagement among peers.  Aerial has experience coordinating educational, psychosocial, and community programs.  She has a science background with specialized interests in sports medicine and medicine.  Aerial is passionate about ensuring not only patients get the support system they need, but caregivers, advocates, and others affected by cancer as well.  After caregiving for her dad, she is determined to continue that support on through the end of treatment.  She has experience volunteering with several cancer organizations including Imerman’s Angels, Stupid Cancer, and previously with Lacuna Loft.

Are You A Healthcare Provider?

stethescope

Healthcare providers are a critically important part of the young adult oncology world and we are so excited that you’re here!  There are many things happening at Lacuna Loft, all geared toward offering young adult cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers (ages 18-45) the support and resources they need to thrive.  Our programs are all offered online so young adult cancer survivors living absolutely anywhere can participate and connect with their young adult cancer survivor peers, either directly through our website or through a video chat platform.

There are several different ways we can work together!

  1. Interested in some materials to offer your patients? Fill out this form and we’ll mail some to you!  On that same form, you can also sign up for our healthcare provider email list to receive periodic program updates!
  2. We can help you bring our online programs directly to your group of young adult cancer patients.  Email mallory@lacunaloft.org for more information on possible programs and other logistics.
  3. Want to share your knowledge on a certain topic?  We can help provide you an online platform to reach young adult cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers, helping spread knowledge to a wider audience! (email mallory@lacunaloft.org for more info)

Want any more information or have a question?  Email info@lacunaloft.org.  We’d love to hear from you!

P.S.  Are you a young adult cancer patient or survivor and want us to chat with your healthcare provider?  Get in contact with us and we can help make that happen!

Share Your Young Adult Cancer Voice

pen

Anyone who has written with Lacuna Loft during a session of our Unspoken Ink: Young Adult Cancer Creative Writing Workshop has heard me say how powerful I believe the voices of young survivors and caregivers to be.  These voices, these stories, have the power to tear down the isolation someone feels when they’ve never met another survivor their age, when they live too far away to seek survivorship support, and every situation in between.

Interested in sharing your story?  Lacuna Loft shares stories ranging from all sorts of topics: fertility, cooking, parenting, DIY, self-advocacy, survivorship, caregiving, and more…all with young adult cancer in mind.  Fill out the form below and we’ll get in touch with you!

Yesterday, Lacuna Loft turned 4! Our nonprofit anniversary is April 7th and we want to celebrate with you!  This coming fiscal year means wonderful and BIG changes at Lacuna Loft with even more of the programming our young adult cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers have come to count on.  To join in our big growth, we’re asking you to join the team!  Sponsor a survivor in a specific program and support your own piece of Lacuna Loft.  Your contribution means more patients, survivors, and caregivers included in each and every program!

Give $15 today to help us reach our goal!

We know that life as a young adult cancer patient or survivor is hard and heavy.  Share the Birthday Celebration with a friend or family member and bring them into the Lacuna Loft Team!

Imagine…you’ve just heard the words ‘you have cancer.’  You are feeling alone and finding other young adults who have gone through cancer too is the first thing on your mind…

Lacuna Loft’s programs connect young adult cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers, helping to end isolation and to improve quality of life.  Each contribution you make today means that one more survivor will receive age-appropriate support and the connections they need to thrive after cancer.

Lacuna Loft is at the American Psychosocial Oncology Society’s Annual Conference in Atlanta this week!  We are very excited by all of the conversations with psychologists, social workers, and other nonprofits around survivorship care and psychosocial support.  We also hosted February’s Creative Art Workshop this week and had the last evening of our 8-week Writing Workshop, Unspoken Ink.  With so much wrapping up, stay tuned for next week when a whole bunch of new things are announced!

Have a great weekend!
